Dearest of friends,

Where should I begin, there has been a horrifying event involving the death of two human beings for a cause with no meaning. Remember our old neighborhood and how we used to play on the corner by the grocery store in Crown Heights? Well, it is no longer the happy place we once knew. Exactly where we used to play wall ball is where a 7yr old black kid was "accidentally" run over by a Jewish man. Things between those two communities have only grown worse since you left. The streets are filled with fire every night from all the rioting, nothing but this current situation fills the news and media, and quite frankly I'm sick of it! The African and Caribbean American communities are in constant battle with the Jewish community and vise verse. There was a spree of revenge due to the killing of that boy, and a Jewish man was stabbed to death! Both parties are fighting a cultural and past tragedy turf war that seems to be a self-feeding machine with no sign of stopping. I believe that you cannot fight fire with fire and all this attention is giving our community a bad rep. Friend, if you ever plan to visit just know that everything has changed and not for the best... Take care and please say hi to the family for me!

Sincerely,

Gilberto Delrio Vives
